Behind the scenes: filming the 3D IMAX movie “Hidden Universe”

Behind the scenes on the IMAX movie - Hidden Universe

Apologies for not updating my blog in a while, I’ve been galavanting around Chile assisting with the production of a new 3D IMAX movie: “Hidden Universe”, due for release in May 2013.

This movie is a joint production with Swinburne University of Technology, December Media and MacGillivray Freeman Films with the participation of the European Southern Observatory and NASA.

In particular, I have been taking behind-the-scenes images of the crew working and doing time-lapse photography for the movie.   Lots of working at 5000m near San Pedro de Atacama and got to spend time again at Paranal Observatory.  Although this is not the observatory I used to work at, many of my friends now work there so had a wonderful time catching up with everyone 🙂

I highly encourage you to go see “Hidden Universe” when it comes out, but in the meantime – here’s a sneak peek of an earlier version of this IMAX movie. The film has evolved since this was put together but it gives you the idea.
